Someone once said, “storms give us a story to tell about God.” As the storm of COVID-19 stretches around the world and touches humanity, we can be confident that God is with his children in the storm. He promises his presence and is at work in peoples’ lives, perhaps as never before.
One Challenge USA is a member of the OC Global Alliance, a strategic partnership of 14 sending centers with about 1,000 workers ministering in 124 countries. Together we’re staying on mission in the midst of the pandemic. We’re discovering new & innovative ways to serve, equip, and connect leaders and churches. This growing situation touches each of us and has required many of our people to cancel travel and rearrange ministry activities, as described in this April letter insert from OC President Dean Carlson.
Sent by countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe, OC Global Alliance workers face great challenges as they serve during this global crisis. Many live in countries where the medical system is unprepared for the crisis. They are working alongside indigenous leaders who are scrambling to help affected individuals and communities.
In light of this, One Challenge USA has launched a COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help frontline OC Global Alliance workers serve in the middle of the storm. Some face medical needs or reduced support from their sending countries as they minister in hard-hit places. Many are trying to work around disrupted travel plans. Many need resources to effectively minister to people in crisis in their national contexts.
One Challenge USA is working closely with the OC Global Alliance to prioritize urgent needs and carefully steward the distribution of funding where most needed.
