Mentor groups, TNT, MBTI, fun nite, campfire, and lifelong friends – these are just a few highlights from summer at One Challenge.
At OC, we’re sure there’s not a better place to be than Colorado in the summer at one of our three events – CORE, Transitions Orientation, and PEP.
During these weeks, new mission workers will be challenged, prepared, and ultimately launched into full-time ministry. Seasoned mission workers will be heard, rested, and encouraged.
CORE – Training & Self Discovery
Training new mission workers is vital to effectiveness in ministry service. Although a worker can never fully be prepared for what’s to come, knowing oneself and knowing trigger points will help individuals tackle any situation.
This year, CORE is rather unusual. “Our Pre-field department will be meeting almost half of CORE participants for the first time at the event,” says Dennis, Pre-field director. “We’re praying for good connection and look forward, as we always do, to discovering those the Lord of the Harvest is sending, and hearing about their journey that brings them to this point in time.”
One major goal of CORE is to shed light on oneself and understanding the lens through which one process’s life.
Cherie, who participated in CORE last year, says: “(At CORE) we experienced community at a deep level, understanding what integration is all about, identifying ‘Who am I? What am I about? How do I relate and interact with others around me?’ It had me go deeper, it broke me, it put me into stressful situations … it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Transition Orientation – Practical Approach to What’s Next
Workers joining OC for this three-day program are within months of full-time ministry. Belongings are packed in boxes, plane tickets are bought, and the journey is ready to begin.
Summer 2017 will see the one of the largest TO’s in recent history with 13 people attending. That’s not the only thing that makes this summer unique. Nearly half of the participants are going into short-term ministry focusing on sports and recreation to reach the unreached – a first for One Challenge.
This emphasis on short term is exciting for OC. Short term is about transformation of nations, but also it’s about the transformation of the individuals participating. Whether or not these men and women choose to continue into long-term ministry, their lives will be forever changed by the experience.
PEP – Focus on Renewal & Sustainability
OC’s MemberCare department and the Global Care Team strive to help OC workers remain healthy in all aspects of life.
One tool to help mission workers process their experiences, and receive some good old fashion R&R is PEP, standing for Personnel Enrichment Program. This 10-day program allows worker to de-stress and decompress surround by others who have similar experiences and challenges.
“As an organization we choose to value our people, our people are our most important resource, so hearing their stories, both personally and corporately is critical,” says Deänne, director of MemberCare.
PEP is about creating a safe haven, a community where it’s OK to bare you soul, heal wounds, and become stronger for the task ahead.
OC President Dean says: “PEP is an opportunity to bring about an environment in which people can experience spiritual renewal in the Lord, to engage in community in deeper ways processing their field experiences, being heard from the head down to the heart, and doing this in community with peers and organizational leaders, in order to process life together.”
Pray for the Summer
Over 100 people will be involved in the summer events. This is a time where we feel vulnerable to attacks from the Enemy.
- Pray for protection. Pray for an awareness of what the Spirit is doing among us during these days together.
- Pray for openness in communication and harmony among all OC personnel involved in planning, preparation, and execution of these events.
- Pray for the individuals who are moving into full-time ministry service, that they would have partners come around them in support.
- Pray for mission works on home assignment, that they would be refreshed during PEP and able to continue on the path ahead.
