One of the principle functions of One Challenge teams is to facilitate connections and collaboration within the body of Christ. We do that regularly and effectively overseas, but we are also doing it more and more in Colorado Springs. A great number of organizations reside in the Springs, but most are so focused on their own ministries that there is little interaction between them. OC’s working on connecting them!
For some time our president Dean Carlson has participated in periodic meetings of chief executive officers in central Colorado. In early December Dean hosted this group at our office. Fifteen leaders participated, including leaders from the Navigators, Reach Beyond and Young Life.
The primary purpose of these meetings is to help the leaders get to know one another. Those relationships can then lead to cooperation and collaboration. By meeting in our office, the leaders had the opportunity to get to know One Challenge better.
A week earlier Dean hosted another group of key leaders with the expressed purpose of discussing leadership development.
That group included leaders from World Venture, OMF, Ideas, GMI and Fuller Seminary as well as Ray, Dick, and David from the One Challenge US-MC. The topic and discussion was of such high interest that the group is planning to meet again soon.
Over 120 Ministry Organizations
Two leaders in Colorado Springs have been keeping a list of the organizations in the area and have been using the list to invite leaders to these types of meetings. The list needed updating, so Dean offered to have One Challenge do the work to update the list. Stan has taken on the challenge of connecting with them. The old list had 120 organizations, but the new list will have around 200!
Our hope and prayer is that people will use the list to connect with one another and to collaborate on projects both internationally and locally. Already we are aware of leaders, groups and services that are available locally that can be a help and a blessing to OC and to other people we work with. One goal of this project is to identify the local ministries the organizations perform so that together we can be more effective in meeting the very significant needs of Colorado Springs residents.
Inspired by OC teams far and wide, the US-MC is seeking to “serve, equip and connect” the local body of Christ knowing that the ripple effect may indeed be felt around the world.
