The OC Global Alliance, of which One Challenge is a member, is a multi-cultural organization with 11 mobilization centers around the world. What does this mean? It means that 10 countries other than the United States are gathering workers to reach their nations and beyond! In Central and South America, the Global Alliance mobilization centers are located in Guatemala, Colombia and Brazil – where the organization is known as SEPAL, “servindo aos pastores e lideres” (Serving Pastors and Leaders).
Sepal is one of the fastest growing areas of the Global Alliance. They have the largest presence in Europe from the One Challenge world, and have taken control of OC in Latin America. Two new teams were opened in 2015 from Sepal, one in France and the other in Chile.
A Resident Team in Chile
“For years we have been praying for the possibility of opening up Chile by sending some of our mission workers. I’ve been going to Chile to work with pastors and leaders since 1999 when I did some training for a Luis Palau crusade in Santiago,” says Ric, a One Challenge worker.
Since that time, Ric has prayed for Chile and has returned to train pastors and leader in the country, yet there has not been a resident One Challenge team located in the country. “One attempt was made to send a family from Guatemala but it failed because of lack of funds. The second time we tried to send a family from Colombia but the attempt was not a success because of the same reason,” Ric says.
Last year Ric met a Brazilian family in Santiago, Chile doing a short-term ministry experience. After an initial meeting Ric did a formal interview and invited them to be part of the Sepal Brazil ministry. They traveled to Brazil, went through the interview process, were accepted and satisfactorily completed their internship. In March they finished raising their support (they still need 20%) and this summer moved to Chile. “We prayed for ‘this’ couple back in 2000. The Lord answers 15-year-old prayers,” Ric says.
Answered Prayers in France
In a similar way, Ric and his wife Frieda have been praying for ministry opportunities in France. One Challenge had a resident team in France almost 20 years ago but had to close for various reasons.
“For years Wilson and Rocio, and their two children Nico and Aleja, prayed for France and hoped beyond hope. Raising support in Colombia where the exchange rate is $1 USD to P$3,000 Colombian pesos and €1 to P$ 3,561 Colombian pesos seemed to be an impossible task and for years it was impossible to raise the support,” Ric says.
But the Lord is good and his riches abound. “The Lord once again showed up and blessed this effort. Sepal Colombia sent them as mission workers, and our Sepal Spain team is responsible for opening the field and for providing the needed supervision and member care. They arrived (in France) last July,” Ric says.
Pray for the Teams
- Pray for Alfredo, Regina and their two children Pedro and Beatriz in Santiago, Chile. We now have the first fruits of our Sepal Chile team in Santiago! Pray for ministry opportunities.
- Please pray for the Franco family and their continued trust in the Lord for their much needed financial support. We now have the first fruits of our Sepal France team in Grenoble.
- Pray for more workers in each location as One Challenge and Sepal would like to see them grow. The Harvest is great but the workers are few.
