“Looking at the Heart of a Leader” was the focus of the two-day in-house Leadership Development Course that was held at the US-Mobilization Center last month. Eighteen OC leaders from Spain, Africa, the UK, the Philippines and the US-MC delved into four aspects of leadership:
- Discerning Leadership: Aligning with God’s vision
- Developmental Leadership: Drawing out the best in others
- Collaborative Leaders: Maximizing synergy within teams and among partners
- Healthy Leadership: Flourishing in life and ministry for self and the team
For over six decades One Challenge mission workers have majored in developing external leaders with great success. The desire is to match that success inside One Challenge. Looking forward to expanding ministry opportunities, nurturing new leaders is paramount. In March 2015, many of OC’s current leaders met to develop and implement corporate leadership development. They brought forth what is known as the OC Leadership Development Plan which applies 2 Timothy 2:2 within OC. Every leader should be receiving development and proactively developing those around him or her in a cascading effect from the president down. The plan is now ready for use by our leaders and mission workers.
The July Leadership Development Course was an expression of the commitment top OC leadership has to the plan. The four sessions were facilitated and taught by members of the Executive Leadership Team: President Dean Carlson, Executive Vice President Ray Sanford, Vice President of Fields Dick Grady, and Executive Director Ron Pritz. Dean says, “Transparency and authenticity are values that guide me in life and ministry. I’ve been deeply impacted by leaders who invite me into their lives and reveal how God shaped them in the tough times. One’s story – told transparently – can empower others. Kathie and I have had several opportunities to do this over the summer in sharing with One Challenge interns, leaders and furloughing global workers.”
How you can be involved?
- Pray for One Challenge leadership – to be developmental, discerning, collaborative and healthy.
- Ask God to provide new leaders to match the ministry opportunities available.
- If you are a leader, consider who God is asking you to develop.
- If you want to grow as a leader, consider who can develop you. Of the four leadership qualities above, which do you most need to develop?
