Since its creation 26 years ago, OC Ministries in India has been committed to the development of church leaders and discipling the whole nation for Christ. As a Mobilization Center (MC) in the Global Alliance, India continues to seek ways to send missionaries to the unreached people groups in the nation and beyond.
The primary avenue in which they seek to fulfill the great commission is through leadership conferences, training in Bible schools, and literature distribution. Dr. Ronald Gier says, “We see a very diverse group of leaders and pastors heading the body of Christ in their parts of the nation. God is doing something marvelous.”
Ronald says he wants to see OC personnel grow in India as there are more unreached people groups in India than any other country in the world with very few missionaries focusing on whole nation discipleship.
Currently, all the OC personnel connected with the India MC are Indian. This is at the heart of OC, training local leaders to reach their nations for Christ. This can come with its own set of challenges as the Indian church has not yet championed the self-supported mission concept. All 11 OC personnel are self-supported and continue to place their finances on the altar of the Lord.
An added challenge of sending missionaries beyond India’s borders is the cost of living outside of India is often more than living inside it. Ronald says this has not stopped OC India’s desire to reach other nations. They are doing it by “training Burmese, Nepalese, Bhutanese, and other neighbors who play a strong role to be missionaries in their own countries. The India MC is very strong in training new generations.”
OC India, like all of the Global Alliance MCs, needs prayer for health and safety of its people. Dave Hagelberg, OC’s area director for Asia, says, “Martyrdom is not rare. It is possible that anti-Christian militant Hinduism could also be a factor, but many men and women are willing to take on that risk.”
An added prayer for the evangelical church in April and May is the general elections. Ronald says, “May God bring the right people (in office), so the church may have some freedom.”
Despite some challenges and hardships, OC India is dedicated to training locals in India and its neighboring countries to take up the harvest. With your prayers, they will continue to be a significant part in reaching the world for Christ.
