One of One Challenge’s guiding principles is collaboration: “We value the whole body of Christ and engage in strategic partnerships out of a conviction that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Last year, OC reported that it is participating in over 500 partnerships around the world! The primary purpose of the U.S. Mobilization Center is to prepare, deploy, and support our mission workers around the world who are engaging in all these partnerships. The staff members at the US-MC are just as interested in collaboration in Colorado Springs.
Christian CEO Breakfasts
For the last few years OC’s president, Dr. Dean Carlson, has been part of a fellowship of the chief executive officers of organizations in the Colorado Springs area. The fellowship is led by Dr. Jerry White and Wayne Pederson. Dr. White is a retired U.S. Air Force Major General and past International President of The Navigators. Mr. Pederson is the past president of Reach Beyond (formerly HCJB). The group meets together regularly for breakfast and fellowship. This month about 20 members of the group gathered at OC’s office.
A Christian Organization Directory
Two years ago, Dr. White and Mr. Pederson were searching for someone to update the directory of Christian organizations in Colorado Springs. Dr. White explained that it has always been a challenge to know what organizations are here since new organizations are being formed or are moving here regularly. The lack of accurate information has inhibited our collaboration in Colorado Springs.
Dean accepted the challenge and asked Senior Director Stan Downes to handle the project. At the breakfast in April Stan presented the leaders with copies of the directory containing information about 208 organizations – up significantly from 105 organizations in the 2011 directory prepared by Biblica.
The directory contains everything from huge and well-known organizations like Focus on the Family, The Navigators, and Every Home for Christ, to tiny “mom and pop” organizations that run on a shoestring budget.
Many organizations care for the physical, emotional, and financial needs of people in the area. Many others work in evangelism and discipleship, including many that target military members and their families. Many of the organizations work only locally, and many others focus on needs in other countries and continents. Many provide resources and teaching through the internet.
Despite its comprehensive list, the directory is a living document and is always changing as Stan regularly learns of additional organizations. Even since its distribution he has received additions.
Now the directory is up-to-date, the challenge is using it effectively and to promote collaboration. Although the exact path is not clear, one hope is to collaborate with the organizations in the area who send mission workers to the same areas of the world as One Challenge. This would open doors for not only collaboration within Colorado but between field teams.
Also, OC can convene meetings of people who carry out similar ministries, whether in the U.S. or abroad.
One Challenge has the tool, and it’s ready to see how the Lord will use it. Please pray for OC to be good stewards of its relationships and this tool for the expansion of God’s work both in Colorado Springs and around the world!
