A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015. With the epicenter between Kathmandu and Pokhara, major areas of Nepal have been hit very hard. Many buildings have collapsed, and the death toll continues to rise.
Having provided training to 1/3 of all pastors in Nepal, One Challenge has an extensive network of indigenous relationships through which to help. “We have staff and partners on the ground who are assessing the situation,” says Gill, Assistant Asia Area Director, One Challenge (OC). “Over the years, we have been working in partnership in church planting efforts in various parts of Nepal. In response to this crisis, we are mobilizing to provide aid and relief. We (Reach Global and One Challenge) are currently assessing needs and developing our plan of action in partnership together. This includes organizing relief to reduce the suffering of the people and mobilizing the church to minister to physical needs as well as bring the gospel.”
Helping through Prayer
Please pray for the nation of Nepal and for relief efforts. “As we talked to our partners about needs, of course the first request is for prayer,” says Gill. “So we would ask for you to mobilize your church to pray as this crisis unfolds and as we seek to help. We also invite others to join in partnership with us.”
Stephen (International leader, Asia for EFCA Reach Global) and Gill (Assistant Asia Area Director, One Challenge) are planning to travel as soon as possible to further assess and direct efforts for relief.
Thank you for your prayers for our OC personnel in Nepal; they are well and out of danger. One OC leader reports that his family survived but can’t return to their home on the 4th floor of a shaken Kathmandu apartment building. In such times the love of God’s people can shine. Please pray for them as they try to figure out how to respond to the great need there.
Helping through Giving
These ministry partners have been devastated, and we want to help them in their relief efforts, to reach their neighbors, their villages, their cities, and their whole country. One way we can do that is through these relief efforts. If you are interested, you can help by giving to the project, Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund at www.onechallenge.org/GIVE.
